Job Description

Drive efficient and effective software development initiatives with this leading company in crop insurance. Manage a team of developers by providing guidance on project strategy and career development. Provide direct contributions to projects and initiatives through software development and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Position will include both people management and individual contributor software development responsibilities
  • Manage team workload by forecasting needed resources and usage, prioritizing, delegating and tracking application development tasks, supervising work and providing guidance as required to ensure efficient achievement of application development goals
  • Foster the achievement of service level agreements by communicating with business leaders, tracking development projects and analyzing results to ensure alignment of technical solutions with key stakeholder expectations
  • Facilitate day-to-day team operations by developing and implementing short-term strategy and collaborating with senior department leaders to align with long-term initiatives and leverage available resources for application development initiatives
  • Capitalize on opportunities for continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to applications to drive efficiency and effectiveness of technical solutions
  • Manage a performance enhancement culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
  • Manage budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and  properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility
  • Create a positive environment by modeling cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value "can do" people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun
  • Model QBE values in personal work behaviors, decision-making, contributions and interpersonal interactions; manage own career development by soliciting feedback and valuing other perspectives

Experience / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • 7 years experience in application development and managing and leading others.
  • Bachelor’s Degree  in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of relational databases, SQL and management information systems (MIS)
  • Advanced working knowledge of technical documentation
  • Advanced working knowledge of software development lifecycle and relevant milestones; project management methodology
  • Advanced working knowledge of .NET technologies and object relational mapping  (ORMs)
  • Advanced working knowledge of n-tier architecture
  • Working knowledge of insurance terminology, property and casualty billing systems and policy administration systems
  • Working knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
  • Define, generate and adapt technology to serve user needs; identify opportunities for enhancements
  • Manage large-scale, complex application development projects
  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication with multiple internal and external stakeholders; communicate complex information in user-friendly format
  • Anticipate obstacles, estimate time and resources needed for the completion of a project
  • Implement planning to prioritize, organize and measure work
  • Organize people, tasks and activities to yield efficient work flow
  • Foster remote working relationships
  • Motivational, inspirational and enthusiastic approach to team leading and management
  • Share knowledge and educate others
  • Manage and prioritize competing responsibilities concurrently and effectively
  • Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, to identify the best people for the job
  • Establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them
