Job Description

Under the direction of the Global Head of Fixed Income, develop and implement fixed income portfolio strategies aiming to achieve the target risk and return profile for the allocated funds within pre-determined investment parameters. Actively engaged in divisional client support.

Key Result Areas & Key Performance Indicators

Strategy and Planning

  • Drives investment strategy discussions, develops portfolio strategies based upon the analysis of macro-economic factors and sector fundamentals and construct efficient portfolios.
  • Manage daily implementation of investment process in accordance with their investment objectives for all portfolios, including UK/Euro ones.
  • Leads oversight of external managers.
  • Leads and/or actively participates in weekly investment team meetings.
  • Contributes to the implementation of ESG factors into our investment process.
  • Contribute to budgeting process.
  • Attend regular external meetings with counterparties.
  • Deliver absolute return targets and outperformance of the composite benchmarks by actively recommending and supporting investment ideas and portfolio changes across currencies and jurisdictions, and also showing ability to implement them consistently.
  • Challenging mindset and conventional thought, always exploring for better ways to do things.
  • High standard Professional representation.   
  • Full understanding of credit principles, implementation of best practices and adherence to established company policies, processes and guidelines

Policies and Procedures

  • Maintains exposures consistent with the agreed strategy for nominated fixed income portfolios
  • Co Responsible for the monitoring and compliance with Broker Panel requirements and Dealing Guidelines.
  • Complies with all client investment mandates and regulatory requirements
  • Complies with all delegated authorities and risk parameters, and demonstrate understanding of the risk management framework
  • Lead the creation and enhancement of robust processes
  • Periodic review of policies and guidelines.
  • Actively involved in UAT.
  • Portfolio construction consistent across funds. Cell reviews don’t identify large deviations that cannot be driven by mandate, capital or regulatory constraints.
  • Any passive breaches are rectified immediately and self-identification of incidents
  • Risk & Compliance and Operations Teams do not highlight unresolved or pending issues.
  • Provide timely and thoughtful input into the processes by which the Broker Panel is determined.
  • Support as appropriate change related activities across the FI team and GI more broadly in order to enhance GI’s operational framework, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Mandatory training completed on time.

Customer and process Focus

  • Ensures provision of information to meet client needs with timely, consistent and high quality standards
  • Provides business and product knowledge for relevant project management activities
  • Build and maintain highly effective relationships within FI, across Group Investments, and with Group and Divisional stake-holders.
  • Participate in Investment committees and diverse forums as required.
  • Support the Global Head of Fixed Income in the provision of relevant information for report generation. Ensure provision of information to meet client needs with timely, consistent and high-quality standards
  • Demonstrate understanding of timeliness and criticality of information
  • Collaborate with colleagues including participation in cross sectional team projects and initiatives.

People Management

  • Understands QBE's cultural values and actively demonstrate them in the role
  • Supports the Global Head of Fixed Income in delivering effective leadership.
  • Contribute positively to engagement within Group Investments
  • Drive and initiative in promoting change as appropriate to deliver GI and FI Initiatives and culture.
  • Contribute to promote a diverse, inclusive and dynamic culture within Group Investments.
  • Coach and develop Junior members within FI team.
  • Role model positive behaviors.
  • Contribute to higher engagement as evidence by Voice Survey and other relevant measures.

Knowledge

  • Relevant degree in Economics/Finance/Business
  • Other industry designations or certifications that marry academic theory with current practice and ethical standards in the investment analysis field (CFA, FRM, CPA, etc)
  • Investment regulatory framework in US and UK/Euro.
  • Experience in assessing complex corporate and capital structure
  • Ability to interpret legal documents

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of financial markets, economics and portfolio theory
  • Customer-focused, with a desire and ability to communicate frequently with clients regarding investment performances among others.
  • Proficient communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in the investment field, with a focus on Fixed Income strategy development, providing and executing portfolio recommendations to clients and in-depth financial and market analysis.
  • Global markets experience. Proven track record managing portfolios across currencies and jurisdictions.
