Job Description

The purpose of this role is to support Legal function by communicating with key stakeholders, conducting in-depth research on assigned projects, organizing complex information and drafting recommendations to assist with corporate legal correspondence and proceedings.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Provide initial legal guidance by communicating with key stakeholders, identifying legal issues, conducting in-depth research, analyzing complex regulations and legal precedent and drafting agreements, contracts and recommendations under the limited supervision of attorneys to facilitate corporate legal proceedings
  • Fulfill regulatory requests by partnering across the organization to gather, clarify and organize complex information to draft and submit timely responses
  • Collaborate with team by sharing information and seeking guidance on complex legal questions and inquiries to foster information sharing and thorough analysis of options for recommendations
  • Manage multiple legal projects by planning and prioritizing assigned work, drafting required correspondence and delegating tasks as appropriate to meet deadlines and achieve desired results
  • Oversee timely submission of required filings by monitoring and tracking filing statuses and communicating with regulators to ensure organizational compliance with multiple states' requirements
  • Provide legal foresight by tracking current legal developments and identifying and escalating relevant issues to plan solutions, responses and necessary updates of organizational policies and procedures

Requirements and Qualifications


High School Diploma/GED

Experience

5 + years relevant experience

Paralegal work in a law firm or legal department; legal research and writing

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Degree in paralegal studies or related field

Experience

  • Insurance, business or corporate governance

Knowledge

  • Legal research and writing principles
  • Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
  • Current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting the business and organization; knows how the business works
  • Westlaw; Microsoft Excel, Word and Access

Skills

  • Legal research databases/programs/tools
  • Complex legal research and writing
  • Inquisitiveness and logical and structured analytical reasoning skills
  • Anticipate future consequences and trends and create accurate forecasts and models
  • Manage multiple projects or responsibilities concurrently and effectively
  • Analyze and synthesize information to form options and recommendations
