Job Description

Assist Legal function by communicating with key stakeholders, conducting research on assigned projects, organizing information and drafting recommendations to assist with corporate legal correspondence and proceedings.

Primary responsibilities

  • Scheduling and coordinating meetings, interviews, events and other similar activities
  • Create and assign new cases in e-billing system, first review of invoices for compliance with guidelines, process invoices and checks within required deadlines
  • Prepare assignment letters to outside counsel
  • Create and maintain legal files
  • Prepare and edit excel spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, and format legal department newsletter
  • Provides information by answering questions and requests
  • Update and change delegated tasks to ensure progress to deadlines for projects
  • Maintain procedures manual to ensure consistent performance of routines
  • Prepare business correspondence (often using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software)
  • Arrange travel and file expense reports

Required Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma/GED

Experience

1 year relevant experience

Licenses/Certifications

Paralegal certificate or degree from an ABA-accredited paralegal program



Preferred Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Degree in paralegal studies or related field

Experience

Experience as a paralegal in a legal environment; legal research and writing; insurance and/or business background

Knowledge

  • Basic legal research and writing principles
  • Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
  • Basic knowledge of current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting the business and organization; knows how the business works
  • Westlaw; Microsoft Excel, Word

Skills

  • Follow established guidelines to focus on details and complete tasks attentively and thoroughly
  • Basic legal research databases/programs/tools
  • Basic legal research and writing
  • Inquisitiveness and logical and structured analytical reasoning skills
  • Manage multiple projects or responsibilities concurrently and effectively

Infrequent (approximately 1-4 trips annually)

General office jobs

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 pounds.
