Job Description

The Lead Business Development Consultant requires strong emphasis on sales skills and business acumen in self-funded employee benefits and medical stop loss. Must be highly motivated with a sense of urgency and be able to take ownership of assigned territory to develop strong production relationships. Must be planning, execution and performance oriented to partner with the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Regional Vice President and Underwriters to develop annual territory development strategies and execute plans with quarterly benchmarks. Meet or exceed business development objectives that promote the continued growth and profitability of the Accident & Health Division.

Primary responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, and develop new production sources (retail brokers and TPAs) within assigned region
  • Effectively manage established production sources and identify opportunities  for relationship expansion and increased production with existing producers 
  • Continuously develop production sources to their next highest relationship grade level i.e.,  1-5
  • Input and maintain accurate and current producer information in central contact management system
  • Proactive follow up on stop loss quotations to support underwriters and facilitate sales
  • Proactively identify key sales opportunities for A&H and other QBE distribution channels.
  • Continually collect and improve local/regional market knowledge as it relates to production sources (brokers and TPAs), competitors (including carriers, MGUs, BUCAs) and  provider networks
  • Represent QBE A&H at appropriate industry functions and conferences
  • Follow the QBE A&H Division Business Development Plan as the basis for all operating activity. Manage new business and renewal processes to ensure timelines and internal guidelines and protocols are followed

Required Qualifications


Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience


Experience:

  • 5 plus years' relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of self-funded employee benefits and Medical Stop Loss
  • Medical stop loss business development experience with brokers and third-party administrators


Preferred Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications

Continuing education in, CEBS, CSFS, or GBA  professional designations.


Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of self-funded employee benefits and Medical Stop Loss
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel – as much as 50%
  • Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building skills

Work environment


Travel frequency: Frequent (approximately 50%)

Must be willing and able to travel (air / car) frequently, potentially on short notice.
Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 pounds.
