Job Description

Lead the strategic development and maintenance of products within areas of responsibility by guiding team operations, leveraging expertise on profitability best practices, monitoring and communicating market trends and tracking regulatory requirements to ensure programs and pricing enhance organizational competitiveness in the marketplace and align with long-term business goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct the design and execution of strategic product development plans by overseeing the building of models and applications for effective pricing analyses, reviewing recommendations on profitable growth initiatives and utilizing knowledge of market best practices to provide feedback to team and ensure operations align with organizational profitability objectives
  • Drive team operations by building effective staffing framework, delegating workload, promoting and encouraging the adoption of product analyses best practices, identifying opportunities for efficiencies and overseeing product filings and resolution of issues to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Lead the continuous improvement of book of business by delegating and overseeing product rate review initiatives and analyzing reports on profit/loss trends, competitive rate position and production metrics to develop strategic plans for innovative, competitive program and pricing changes and ensure alignment with targeted return on equity (ROE) objectives and financial plans
  • Build professional, trustworthy relationships across the organization by collaborating with senior managers and leaders to consult on profitable program and pricing changes, ensure compliance with state product regulations and drive the development of effective distribution strategies for increasing competitiveness in the marketplace
  • Facilitate communication with state regulators by answering complex filing, examination and regulatory inquiries, resolving issues and guiding team on communications best practices to foster resolution of information gaps and ensure organizational alignment with state filing requirements
  • Manage a performance enhancement culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development
  • Manage budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and  properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility
  • Create a positive environment by modeling cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value "can do" people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience

  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Managing a product management function; experience managing or leading others; increasing levels of responsibility

Licenses / Certifications

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Casualty Actuary Society (CAS) designation or other related insurance certification

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Master's Degree
  • Math, Economics or Finance degree, or Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Experience

  • Financial modeling background; experience in an organization with strong product-management clout; previous product analysis experience in area of responsibility

Knowledge

  • Advanced working knowledge of business and project management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique and coordination of people and resources
  • Advanced working knowledge of policy forms, rates, rules and procedures for product area of responsibility
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
  • Advanced working knowledge of market competition and complex insurance principles, trends, best practices
  • Advanced working knowledge of complex state and federal regulatory requirements for multiple regions
  • Advanced working knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Working knowledge of SAS software
